Walk in the old Phuket Town
A walking tour of the old city of Phuket is an excellent way to return to its Sino-Portuguese past, that made the city the center of the tin mining industry in Thailand decades ago. Today, Phuket’s old town is full of trendy cafes, old shops restored and painted in bright colors, and sanctuaries. Take the opportunity to visit the night market that takes place every weekend, where a lot of different stalls will be waiting for you. As you can imagine, since we are in Thailand, a large part of the market is dedicated to food !
Admire the statue of the Great Buddha
The 45-meters high Buddha stand on top of a hill overlooking Phuket and can be seen for miles around. The site attracts many visitors, who come to admire the huge white jade statue shining in the sun or to enjoy the panoramic view of the island and its beaches from the top of the hill. Far from the noise of the city and the music of the bars, immerse yourself in the peaceful atmosphere that reigns, with the slight tinkling of the statue’s small bells and the fluttering of Buddhist flags, while admiring the landscape.
Sail in Phang Nga Bay
One of the most typical activities in Phuket is a boat trip through the spectacular limestone islands of Phang Nga Bay, with occasional stops to enjoy the scenery and quiet beaches. Looking like a real postcard, this bay extends between Phuket and Krabi province. You should stop to see some of the most famous islands of the bay such as Koh Panyee or the island of James Bond, known to have appeared in the “Man with the Golden gun” movie.
Visit the temple of Wat Chalong
The Wat Chalong is one of Phuket’s most visited tourist sites. Built in the 19th century, it is the largest buddhist temple on the island. It includes several buildings but the most impressive remains the 60 meters high Chedi, supposed to shelter a fragment of Buddha’s bone. The interior is decorated with very beautiful murals representing the life of Buddha and its terrace offers a breathtaking view of Phuket.
